LEGAL IMPLICATIONS OF BLASPHEMY WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO INDIAN LAW

Description

Blasphemy simply means the action or offence of speaking sacrilegiously about god or sacred things.Blasphemy is considered as a religious crime. Then the question arise what is the relation between freedom of speech and expression and blasphemy laws in a secular country like India.Secularism in India does not mean the separation of religion from state. Instead secularism in India means a state that supports or participates in the neutral manner in the affairs of all religious groups. The Indian variant of secularism interferes with the ideals of social reform of religion as envisaged under the constitution. Thus blasphemy, freedom of religion and freedom of speech and expression is entangled to each other.
